"WE NEED TO LET EACH OTHER BE NEW."
Today is World Kindness Day and when I think of kindness and what kindness I can provide for others, these words by Natalia Rachel author of “Why am I like this?” spring to mind
“We need to let each other be new.”
I fall prey to building resentments.
When people disappoint me, specially those who I revered, it takes me awhile (if not never) to reconnect with these people again.
It’s a work in progress and I knew this about me since I was a child. There seems to be a quick “off switch” for me when it comes to people who have crossed the line and it’s hard for me to be as open, be less cautious, and be forgiving.
Yet, I am trying.
I am working on settling those parts of me that are hurt, frustrated, dissatisfied, and oftentimes judging the situation as unfair, inconsiderate, and selfish.
These situations touch on my values around equity, justice, and contribution to others.
Yet, I am trying to see it also from the other person’s views and to also be cognizant that in some situations they are probably not aware of how their actions are impacting others.
We don’t know, what we don’t know.
So in the spirit of kindness, I am reminding myself, to “ let others be new”.
To encourage people in their growth.
To support people as they are changing.
To be there amidst their chaos.
While still keeping the sacredness of the boundaries I put in place.
And as each of us is allowed to be new, we build up on hope.
We build up on gratitude.
We build up on resilience.
We build up on care, on connection, on contribution, and on community.
We pursue kindness, not only of others, but also within ourselves.
As each one of us is encouraged to be new, we choose differently.
We forgive.
We heal.
We live life intentionally.
We choose in the direction of what would nourish the divinity in each one of us.
